Orla O’Connor is a traditional Irish musician, educator, and multi-instrumentalist originally from Fenit, Ireland. She began her musical journey playing the tin whistle before moving to the fiddle, which quickly became her primary instrument. Deeply rooted in the Irish tradition, Orla developed her style through a combination of community music-making and formal instruction, reflecting the strong oral tradition that defines Irish music.

In addition to fiddle, she also plays cello and guitar, bringing a versatile perspective to both performance and teaching.

Orla holds a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Vocal Performance from Idaho State University, where she developed a strong classical foundation alongside her traditional music background. In 2025, she won the Senior Fiddle Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, the world’s largest and most prestigious festival and competition for traditional Irish music. She also previously won a Fleadh title in 2016, highlighting her long-standing commitment to the tradition.

With over six years of teaching experience across the United States, Ireland, and Scotland, Orla has worked with students of all ages and abilities. Her teaching emphasizes strong fundamentals, musical expression, and a deep appreciation for traditional music while keeping lessons engaging and accessible.

Through Reels and Roots Music Co., Orla offers limited instruction in Irish fiddle, vocal technique, and music theory, as well as workshops and live performances that celebrate traditional and contemporary music while fostering connection and community through music.
